Mailbox Monday - January 31st

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week (or month). I post my new books on the last Monday of the month. I'm late again with this post. It has been way too hot to sit at a computer.
Mailbox Monday now has a permanent home at the Mailbox Monday Blog

Happy Monday Tuesday!

It has been so hot and humid in Sydney this month I haven't spent much time at the computer and I haven't done much reading either. My thoughts are with my readers in eastern North America who have suffered devastating snow storms. Whether it be by heat, fires, storms or snow the weather can be unpredictable and destructive.

January is school holidays in Australia and below are a few pics of what we have been up to.

Books I received during January for review

I couldn't resist buying these books simply for their vivid sprayed edges.

Do you ever buy books just for the cover or other exclusive features?

Mailbox Monday - January 10th

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week (or month). I post my new books on the last Monday of the month (very late with my December post). It now has a permanent home at the Mailbox Monday Blog

Happy Monday!

It's been a while since I last posted a Monday update. Christmas has come and gone and we are in the middle of a very humid summer. Dot has been enjoying the pool and we even got Jay in for a swim today. He usually sits on the edge because he doesn't like to get wet.

I couldn't resist this Christmas themed toilet paper. The ultimate in Christmas decor 😀

Every night we go for a walk along a path beside the creek and the last few nights we have been lucky to see an abundance of wildlife; turtles, water dragons, skinks, blue-tongue lizards and ducks.

After all the worry with Covid and not knowing whether our daughter's wedding would be able to go ahead, or not, we were very lucky to be in a Covid free window and the wedding went off beautifully. It was an unusually cold summer's day but it didn't rain so that's a plus. The setting was gorgeous with the surrounds lush and green and the dining area open to the outside.

We spent New Years Eve at home watching the festivities and fireworks on TV. This seemed the safest option as Covid had started it's rampage through Sydney.

Books I've received for review, purchased new, bought second hand and received as gifts

Jack Gregson & The Stolen Sons    You Need to Know      The Bone Ranger

Lily Harford's Last Request    The Bluffs  All We Have Is Now

The Russian Wife  Kill Your Brother

 Happy Monday

We are having a wet and cool Spring this year in Sydney but I am still managing to get out for my daily walks and also snuggling up inside reading lots of books. It's hard to believe the Australian Summer starts on Wednesday and we are still getting around in long pants and jumpers!

What is a month in The Burgeoning Bookshelf's household without a birthday or two. Over the last month we celebrated my Daughter-in-laws birthday and my third son's birthday.

The Jacarandas are blooming everywhere. This beautiful carpet of flowers is on my front lawn. A neighbour has a Jacaranda and an Illawarra Flame tree in their front yard and it looks so amazing we are contemplating planting an Illawarra Flame tree.

My eldest daughter is getting married in a few weeks and hopefully I will have some photos in the next mailbox post.

Mailbox Monday: October 25th

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week (or month). It now has a permanent home at the Mailbox Monday Blog.

 Happy Monday

It was so good to finally celebrate Freedom Day for New South Wales Australia.  We were allowed to have 10 visitors to our house which was just enough have our children and their partners visit to celebrate our youngest son's 30th Birthday.

I've also been enjoying trips to the local shops and actually sitting down and having a coffee. The simple pleasures. 😀
The Prevention Australia virtual walk was held yesterday. It is a 10km walk to raise money for breast cancer trials. It has been lots of fun over the last 6 weeks training for our 10km walk.

Jay found the perfect place to wait out the small shower of rain during our play at the park.

I found this gorgeous Christmas decoration at Myer.
Book Fairies all over the world hid copies of Pony by R J Palacio on publication date. This is one of my books waiting to be found.

Books I've received and purchased over the last month.

Monday Mailbox: September 27th

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. It now has a permanent home at the Mailbox Monday blog.

Happy Monday!

Last month when I posted a Mailbox Monday we were looking forward to New South Wales lockdown ending at the end of September but it's now been extended to end of October. We are "allowed" to walk and go on picnics of 5 vaccinated people. Below are some happy snaps of my daily walks and a small picnic for my daughter's birthday.

People are leaving painted rocks around for the children to find on their walks. I took a photo of this one and left it for someone else to find.

Spoonville is another cute initiative for the children. Dress up a wooden spoon and leave it in this little spoon village.

I have joined the Prevention Australia walk for cancer trials. It is a 10km walk on the 24th October. Walking is all we can do so It's not too hard to get to 10km at the moment.

Books I've received and purchased over the last month.
