Mailbox Monday - May 17th

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. It now has a permanent home at the Mailbox Monday blog.

 Happy Monday!

It's been a rocky couple of weeks. My husband had an accident on his bicycle and spent a 5 days in hospital. He is very fortunate that he never goes out without a helmet but he still managed to get quite battered, six fractured ribs and muscle damage to his leg. I've been playing nurse all week as he can't walk more than a few steps. So there's been no reading for the last two weeks. However, new books arriving in the mailbox have kept me smiling.

A few pics from what I was up to before the accident.

Startled a possum on my walk one night

Loved playing book fairy leaving books at parks and shops

Books I've received and purchased over the last three weeks.

Wednesday Weeks and the Tower of  Shadows

Falling by T J Newman

Goal by Lydia Williams

The Kindness of Birds by Merlinda Bobis

Magpie's Bend by Maya Linnell

The School by Brendan James Murray

Love in Theory by Elodie Cheesman

Catch Us the Foxes by Nicola West

I would love to hear what books you've received in the mail recently!

  1. Oh no! Your poor husband! And poor YOU! Hope he's on the mend and won't require your nursemaid services for much longer x

    1. Thanks Elizabeth. It's a slow recovery and he is usually quite active so getting a bit frustrated.

  3. I hope your husband recovers soon, that must've been quite a shocker! I love the sound of 'The Kindness of Birds', in the blurb it said 'we pull through in the company of others' and I can't imagine anything describing your situation more perfectly! I hope you have a lovely start to the week and do drop by my Mailbox Monday if you have the time! - Juli @ A Universe in Words

    1. The Kindness of Birds appealed to me. Sightings of birds are so often comforting to people in times of loss.

    1. Thanks Laurel. A tempting read is just what I need at the moment. I've turned to my comfort reads, romance, for a few weeks.

Looks like you had fun as a book fairy. I hope they wouldn't get wet.

    1. Thanks Martha. He is slowly recovering. We don’t get much rain where I live so I was pretty safe with getting the books out and staying dry. It was fun getting the books out and about and thinking of places I could leave them I have a few ideas in mind for next time.

  6. Hi Veronica,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband's accident, hospital is the last place you want to be right now whilst Covid is still going around, although you guys have definitely had it much better than we have here in the UK!

Anyway, I do hope that he is on the mend slowly but surely and that when he is up and around again, he spares a thought for the lovely personal nursing care he received - perhaps a nice break away or a good meal out might cover it? :)

I really shouldn't be adding any more books to my 'wish list' right now, but I really do like the sound of 'Falling' and 'Magpie's Bend'.

I can't quite see the label on your book fairy gift, but is it 'Book Crossing' by any chance? I thought about joining them a while back, but then changed my mind for some reason. Mind you, we have quite a few community libraries around this area, so I will never have a shortage of somewhere to leave my gifts. I have given up donating them to charity shops as so few ever make it as far as the shelves for sale.

Thanks for sharing your latest stash of books and best wishes to yourself and hubbie! :)

    1. We don’t have much covid in Australia but the hospitals are very strict with temperature checks and masks. They also restricted visitor numbers. Book Fairies is different from Book Crossings though I have had a look at that site also. It looks interesting too. I will have to do a post about book fairies, it’s worldwide.
